Oil Pastel Butterfly
Description: This project involved combining oil pastels and watercolors. We first had to trace a butterfly wing onto the white piece of paper. Then we had to draw our own design into the middle of the wing. Then we outlined everything we drew with sharpie. After that we started with the oil pastels. We either had to pick warm or cool colors. I chose to do cool colors in the butterfly wing. We worked on blending the colors together. After that we colored in the background of the wing with black oil pastels. Lastly, we had to paint the background of the project with watercolors. Because I did cool colors in the wing, I had to use warm colors in the background. Extension: For an extension activity, I would have the students learn about butterflies and how they live. They will have to research about butterflies and write a paper about them.
