Oil Pastel Butterfly

Image
Description: This project involved combining oil pastels and watercolors. We first had to trace a butterfly wing onto the white piece of paper. Then we had to draw our own design into the middle of the wing. Then we outlined everything we drew with sharpie. After that we started with the oil pastels. We either had to pick warm or cool colors. I chose to do cool colors in the butterfly wing. We worked on blending the colors together. After that we colored in the background of the wing with black oil pastels. Lastly, we had to paint the background of the project with watercolors. Because I did cool colors in the wing, I had to use warm colors in the background.  Extension: For an extension activity, I would have the students learn about butterflies and how they live. They will have to research about butterflies and write a paper about them.

Printmaking

Image
Description: For this project we did printmaking. We had to have at the end, three different prints, with two of them having vegetables used in them. We had the gelli prints and put different colored paint on them. Then rolled out the paint so that it covered the whole gelli print. Then we either took a vegetable (broccoli, pepper, or celery), or a stencil and pressed it into the gelli print to make the design we wanted. After that, we put the paper on top of the print and pressed it down. After that we pulled the paper off of the gellli print. Then we were left with a nice print. We continued to do so until we had experimented with as many different designs as possible. At the end, we took three of our favorite prints and put them onto the paper for a gallery walk at the end.  Extension Activity: For the extension activity, I would have the students research different ways printmaking has been used throughout the centuries for different things. They will have to write a short pape...

3-D Tree

Image
Description: For this project we made a 3-D tree. We had to draw two trees on a big piece of white paper. Then we had to color the trees with two different types of media. I used markers and colored pencils. Then we had to draw a background. I did the grass, sky, and a pumpkin. Each side had to have a different season to represent. After coloring everything, we had to cut strips out of the trees that we made, and glue them opposite on the paper. Then we had to fold the paper accordion style to give the 3-D effect.  Extension: For an extension activity I would work with the students on the seasons. They will have to research the different seasons and what happens in each. Then they will have to write a short story about a season and how it affected the people or wildlife in their story.

Miniature Clay Food

Image
Description: For this activity, we had to create 3 different clay foods and paint them. We had to use different techniques like slip and score, cutting them out, pounding the clay on the table, and painting the clay while it was wet.  Extension Activity: For an extension activity, I would tie it into the food groups and have the students learn about the different food groups and how food effects your body. Students will have to research the food groups and write a paragraph about each food group.

Whoville Project

Image
Description: For this project we had to show our creativity in which we were given a white piece of paper and 10 pieces of colored paper. We had to use at leas 2 of our own designs and 2 of the designs they provided to draw onto at least 4 of the strips of colored paper. After doing that, we had to use at least 3 different folds of paper to put onto the white piece of paper. On each of the strips of colored paper we had to make tabs to glue down the strips to the white paper so that they did not come unglued. At the end, we hung up our projects with everyone else's in the class to make one big Whoville. Extension Activity: For this extension activity, I would have the students write a short paper about their Whoville as if they were the mayor of the town. They would have to explain how things get done their and how the people work together to make the town successful. The students need to be very descriptive with their writing to show how their Whoville is different from their cl...

Watercolor Paintings

Image
Description: For this project we were taught about galaxy painting. We learning about constellations and different ways to use watercolors. For this project we had to include 3 different types of watercolor techniques, one constellation, and it had to be a landscape.  Extension Activity: For this activity, I would have students learn more about the galaxy and constellations. Students will use this project and research about galaxy's and constellations to write a paper about what they are and fun facts about them.

Perspective Drawing

Image
Description: For this assignment, our classmates taught us how to draw with perspective. We had to draw at least four squares in half of the paper, then draw lines from the corners of the squares to the middle of the paper. After that we went over those lines with black sharpie to make the lines stand out. Then we had to pick two of the patterns from their slide show and come up with two of our own to put in the squares. After that we used oil pastels to create at least three different combinations. Extension activity: I would teach the students about buildings and how they have perspective as well. For the assignment they will have to choose a building in their town and draw it. They will research the building and find pictures on the internet. After that they will draw the building showing shading and perspective.
